How you define Stephen Duneier depends on how you came to know him. Some define him as an expert institutional investor, while others know him as a large scale installation artist, avid outdoorsman, professor, decision strategist, coach, business leader, mindfulness extremist, author, speaker, daredevil or Guinness world record holder. In his talk, Stephen explains that what truly defines him arent titles, but an approach to decision making that transformed him from someone who struggled with simple tasks to a guy who is continuously achieving even his most ambitious dreams.

For thirty years, he has applied cognitive science to investing, business and life. The result has been the turnaround of numerous institutional businesses, career best returns for managers who have adopted his methods, the development of a $1.25 billion dollar hedge fund and a rapidly shrinking bucket list.

Massimo Pigliucci has a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee. He currently is the K.D. Irani Professor of Philosophy at the City College of New York. His research interests include the philosophy of biology, the science philosophy relationship, pseudoscience and the philosophy of Stoicism.

Having published in national and international outlets such as the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal, he is a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and a Contributing Editor to Skeptical Inquirer. He owns two blogs: Plato’s Footnote on general philosophy and How to Be a Stoic on his personal exploration of Stoicism as practical philosophy.

Pigliucci has also published 153 technical papers in science and philosophy, while he is the author or editor of 13 books, most recently of the best selling How to Be A Stoic: Using Ancient Philosophy to Live a Modern Life. Закон Ома – это главный закон электрика! Ни один расчет электрической схемы, какой бы сложной она не была, не обходится без него. Любая электрическая или электронная схема характеризуется всего тремя основными параметрами. Первый – это напряжение на сопротивлении нагрузки. Второй – это само сопротивление нагрузки. И третий параметр – это сила тока, протекающая через нагрузку. Закон Ома для участка цепи позволяет определить любой из трех неизвестных параметров при заданном значение остальных двух параметров. Упрощенно его можно пояснить так: с постом сопротивления нагрузки, электронам становится сложнее пройти через нее, поэтому электроны отдают больше энергии на преодоление сопротивления; соответственно тем меньший ток будет протекать в цепи.
Также на практике широко применяется закон Ома для полной цепи. Под полной цепью в данном случае понимают электродвижущую силу ЭДС источника питания, его внутренне сопротивление и сопротивление нагрузки. С учетом это сила ток в полной цепи будет несколько ниже, за счет дополнительного падения напряжения на внутреннем сопротивлении. Поэтому чаще всего источника питания характеризуют не по ЭДС, а по напряжении.
Именно благодаря закону Ома электричество получило свое дальнейшее развитии, а от него образовались целые отдельные направления: электроника, электротехника и т.п. Первые опыты Ом проводил применяя магнитную стрелку для определения силы тока. Впоследствии ученый пришел к тому, что отклонение стрелки пря пропорционально величине напряжения и обратно пропорционально сопротивлению.
